I am an anthroposophist, and aspiring psychedelic-positive contributor to the thought leadership of the psychedelic renaissance.
As of the summer solstice 2023, I’ve completed my memoir-plus, Growing Up Psychedelic: Becoming Human in a World of Spirit. It recounts the years from my first psychedelic trip at age 15, in 1970, through my last acid trip at age 21, and more: and then tries to understand those experiences through the lens of Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophy, or spiritual science.
My own perspective is that while it can be useful to categorize psychedelics into spiritual, therapeutic, and celebratory (recreational) categories, a deep spiritual understanding is paramount. The agents don’t recognize water-tight compartments. Across the spectrum of spiritual teachings, movements, and ideas, anthroposophy – which has been my center of gravity in spiritual study and practice close to fifty years – has a tremendous amount of concrete material that can contribute to the understanding of psychedelics from a spiritual perspective.
